First there was Deadener which, when added to Platsil Gel 10, made it softer by degrees. Now Platsil Part H Hardener does exactly what it says on the tin and increases the hardness of Platsil Gel 25 as more is added. Platsil Gel 25 is a 25 Shore ‘A’ silicone and by adding up to 50% hardener to the A&B it increases the Shore ‘A’ taking it to a 40 Shore rubber that is perfect for making extremely accurate block moulds, as well as flat moulds for prosthetics that won’t distort when you apply a scraper in order to do scrape over silicone appliances. Until now the most popular silicone for making block moulds, prosthetic moulds and accurate matrix moulds was Transil 40. T40 base is very thick, difficult to mix the catalyst with and very hard to de-gas. T40 also takes 16hrs to cure. Platsil Gel 25 with 50% Hardener is very fluid, easy to mix and only takes two hours to reach a full cure. Platsil Gel 25 hardener is a new product and we’re still discovering what it can do. Recently it was brought to my attention that some people have had success adding it to other addition cure silicones such as Transil 20 and Platsil Gel 10 and have been able to increase the durometer of these silicones too. I would however recommend testing this for yourselves before committing to using it this way.
